I’ve witnessed some wonderful small businesses fail. Or what we might define as failure.
Our favorite coffeehouse closed after the end of its first year, well within the 18 months when 8 out of 10 businesses tend to close their doors.
I and my daughter, who enjoyed her first job there, mourned over this. Not because the coffee was better than the Starbucks across the street but because of Giovanna, because of her mom Maureen, because of the way they named Amano Vivere after the father and husband they loved and lost, and because they poured heart and soul into making their business a space where people could find far more than their morning cup.
The doors will never close on the kindness they poured into people’s lives.
